Restorations completed in 1994
This hall was erected by the 4th holy priest, Shonyo. During the Kamakura period, the holy priest Honen spent four years here reciting the nembutsu prayers. During this time, he was visited in a dream by the great priest Zendodaishi and was instructed to establish Jodo-shu - the Pure Land sect of Buddhism. The shadow of these two great teachers in conversation was reflected and transferred onto the wall, and subsequently became worshipped as the principal deity of Nikaido Hall.
